IFRDMD attends the Working Group Meeting on Collecting Data and Analysis for “Strengthening the effective management of inland fisheries and aquaculture in AMS with GIS and RS technology”
IFRDMD staffs represented by Dr. Takuro Shibuno, Dr. Dina Muthmainnah, and Ms. Assyifa Mufida Aprilita, attended the Working Group Meeting on Collecting Data and Analysis for “Strengthening the effective management of inland fisheries and aquaculture in AMS with GIS and RS technology” in Vientiane, Lao PDR, on 28 November 2019. The meeting aimed to discuss the contents of collecting catch data at five sites in five countries and the analysis methods to clarify the relationship between catch data and environmental data by satellite. The participants came from National Focal Points of the Project from Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Thailand as well as SEAFDEC/Secretariat, Training Department, and IFRDMD. This activity supported by the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF).
The Meeting was opened by Dr. Worawit Wachana, Policy and Program Coordinator of SEAFDEC. Regional and national experts on GIS, RS technology, inland capture fishery, and inland aquaculture invited to share their experience, i.e., Prof. Tuangtong Jutagate from Ubon Ratchatani University Thailand, Ms. Tanyaluck Chansombat from Naresuan University Thailand, and Dr. Wirote Laongmanee from Burapha University Chanthaburi, Thailand. The progress of collecting data and fishing gear information at five sites in five countries was shared by Ms. Siriporn Pangson from SEAFDEC/Training Department, while Prof. Toshihide Kitakado delivered the progress of collecting environmental data by satellite from TUMSAT Japan. Prof. Kitakado continued by explaining the analysis of the relationship between catch data and environmental data.
Mr. Isao Koya informed and discussed further activity plans for the project. The Meeting was closed by Dr. Worawit. (MA)
