In ten years, SEAFDEC/IFRDMD has played a pivotal role in coordinating various projects to improve the management of rivers, lakes, and reservoirs, as well as vital sources of food, income, and employment in the region. These bodies of water are central to ensuring resilient livelihoods, but a comprehensive understanding of the challenges facing inland fisheries remains complex.
To reflect on a decade of work and explore future strategies, SEAFDEC/IFRDMD hosted the “Decade Achievements of IFRDMD: Workshop of Best Practices in Inland Fisheries Management to Optimize Well-being” on October 23, 2024, at Wyndham Hotel, Palembang, Indonesia.
Fishery officers from Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, academicians and international organizations, as well as SEAFDEC Secretariat and IFRDMD, gathered to share insights, assess challenges, and identify the priorities for rebuilding and sustaining inland fisheries.
