On 23 September 2024, Chief of IFRDMD, Mr. Andi Soesmono coordinated with Dr. Ageng Herianto, the A-FAOR (Programme) FAO Indonesia, at Thamrin Tower, Jakarta. This activity aims to give more attention to the inland fisheries sector, which has so far received less attention than other fisheries sectors.
Inland fisheries have an important role in supporting people’s incomes, especially for the middle to lower class. They are also a significant source of protein for many communities in different regions. However, Indonesia’s fisheries management policies and programmes often overlook this huge potential.
In this meeting, IFRDMD and FAO discussed various strategies to improve the management and development of inland water fisheries, hoping that this sector can be given more attention and empowered so that its economic benefits can be felt more widely by the people who depend on it.
