IFRDMD held an audience with the Marine and Fisheries Service of South Sumatra Province on 9 October 2024. The group, which was accompanied by the Head of the Research Institute for Inland Fisheries and Extension, Mr. Rezki Antoni, was directly received by the Head of the South Sumatra Provincial Marine and Fisheries Service, Mr. Aries Irwan Wahyu. In this meeting, IFRDMD, led by Deputy Chief Mr. Toru Shimoda, reported on the implementation plan of the workshop to be held by IFRDMD. This workshop, scheduled for 23-24 October, 2024, and will be attended by countries in Southeast Asia, sparking hope for the future of inland fisheries.
Mr Aries welcomed the implementation of this activity. He was delighted that this activity was held in Palembang, the capital of South Sumatra Province, which is famous for its vast land for inland fisheries activities in Indonesia. He also expressed his hope that the activity will run smoothly and produce inputs that will make inland fisheries interesting to consider by policymakers not only in Indonesia, but throughout the world. He stressed the unique opportunity for stakeholders to contribute to the workshop, encouraging their active participation and fostering a sense of ownership.
