SEAFDEC/IFRDMD Strengthens Cooperation with Muara Enim Fisheries Office for Sustainable Fisheries Management

On February 17, 2025, SEAFDEC/IFRDMD held an audience with the Head of the Fisheries Office of Muara Enim Regency, Mr. Muflih, along with his staff and fisheries extension officers. During this meeting, IFRDMD, accompanied by the Head of the Research Institute for Inland Fisheries and Extension, Mr. Rezki Anthoni, presented the 2025-2029 work program to be implemented in Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra Province.

Two key projects introduced are 1) Enhanced Research Capacities for Sustainable Utilization and Management of Eel and Other Inland Fisheries Resources, and 2) Improving Fishers’ Livelihood and Fisheries Co-Management in Inland and Coastal Small-Scale Fisheries
Both projects are funded by the Japan Trust Fund 7 and aim to support the sustainable management of inland fisheries resources while improving the well-being of fishers.

Additionally, IFRDMD provided an information of updated progress on the SPEECTRA project, which has been implemented since 2020 in Patra Tani, part of Muara Enim Regency. The monitoring of this project will continue until 2029 to ensure its optimal implementation.

Mr. Muflih welcomed these initiatives and expressed the Fisheries Office’s readiness to support the smooth execution of the projects.

Through this collaboration between SEAFDEC/IFRDMD and the local government, it is hoped that fisheries management in Muara Enim Regency can be more effective and sustainable.
