SEAFDEC/IFRDMD Conducts Working Visit to Jakarta to Prepare for Workshop on Monitoring Plastic Waste in Inland Fisheries
As part of the effort to strengthen preparations for an upcoming workshop on monitoring plastic waste in inland fisheries, SEAFDEC/IFRDMD conducted a working visit to Jakarta on 16–17 April 2025. This activity is part of the sub-activity titled “Investigation and Risk Assessment of Microplastics in Freshwater Fish and Dissemination of the Results on Contaminant of Microplastics,” funded by the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) 2025 under the main project “Activity Research Study on the Impact from Contaminant of Microplastics in Freshwater Fish and Marine Fish.” The visit was led by Mr. Andi Soesmono, the Chief of IFRDMD.
On April 16, 2025, the SEAFDEC/IFRDMD delegation was warmly welcomed by Dr. I Nyoman Radiarta, Director of the Agency for Marine and Fisheries Extension and Human Resources Development. During the meeting, they discussed ways to provide institutional support and foster strategic collaboration to ensure the workshop’s success. Dr. Nyoman also offered guidance for the smooth implementation of the planned activities. On 17 April 2025, the team met with Prof. M. Reza Cordova, Ph.D., a researcher from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), to explore the technical aspects of the study and the dissemination of research findings on microplastic contamination in freshwater fish.
In addition to stakeholder meetings, the SEAFDEC/IFRDMD team held internal discussions on administrative and technical preparations and conducted site inspections of the planned field trip locations and workshop venue.
Through this activity, the aim is to ensure that the upcoming workshop runs smoothly, enhances monitoring capacity for plastic waste, and raises awareness about the risks of microplastics to inland fishery resources.
