IFRDMD disseminates manual guidelines of conservation model in swamp area
To get feedback from stakeholders, IFRDMD socialized the draft guideline entitled Remodeling swamp fisheries: conservation areas.
The one-day meeting was held at the Office of the Regent of Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI), Kayu Agung, South Sumatra Province, Indonesia, on November 29, 2022. There were 35 participants from fisheries extension officers, local government officials, and IFRDMD officers. The meeting was introduced by the Chief of IFRDMD, Mr. Zulkarnaen Fahmi, who realized that understanding and support for the importance of conservation areas was needed by all stakeholders, including the community, government, and also parties with interest in the area. Therefore, IFRDMD held socialization activities on Guidelines for Remodeling Swamp Fisheries as Conservation Areas.
The opening remarks were delivered by Ms. Eka Nurmayani, the Secretary of the OKI Fisheries Service. She welcomed this activity and hoped it could be implemented in the OKI swamp fisheries.
Two speakers were invited to share their knowledge of swamp fisheries. The first material, Swamp Fisheries in Muara Enim Regency, was delivered by Mr. Johan, the Head of the Aquaculture Division at the Muara Enim Fishery Service, continued by Dr. Dina Muthmainnah, the Head of the Research and Development Section of SEAFDEC/IFRDMD, who presented the draft manual guide. In the discussion session, the participants conveyed many suggestions to improve the draft.
The event was closed by the Deputy Chief of IFRDMD, Mr. Tomohito Shimizu, who expressed appreciation for participating in the session to gain valuable knowledge and new innovative ideas. The feedback has been invaluable for planning such seminars in the future. It is hoped that what has been socialized can be implemented in Ogan Komering Ilir Regency
