GATHERING INFORMATION OF ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED BY MRC

Mekong River Commission (MRC) has much knowledge and experience on inland waters and also inland capture fisheries management in Lower Mekong area through their active and devoted studies for a long period. Before considering any concrete activities and/or plans conducted in Lower Mekong area, on 5-7 March 2018, SEAFDEC/IFRDMD (represented by Mr.Aroef Hukmanan Rais, Mr. Freddy Supriyadi, and Dr. Dina Muthmainnah) recognized the information of activities that had been/has been conducted in this area and understanding the achievements, results and issues through the undertaken previously activities by MRC. This activity aims to gather the information on inland fisheries activities in Lower Mekong Basin based on MRC’s experiences, including the achievements, failures/difficulties, the remaining issues and so on. On that occasion, Dr.Dina from IFRDMD presented the the profile of SEAFDEC/IFRDMD, while the officers of MRC presented some problems, such as Fisheries monitoring; and Ecological Health Monitoring (Mr. Vanna Nuon); Water quality monitoring (Dr. Hoang); Fisheries management strategy (Dr. Phattareeya); and Wetland management (Dr. Prayooth). These knowledge and information reflected the process of the consideration and treatment of SEAFDEC/IFRDMD’s present and future activities that would aim the sustainable use fish stocks, habitats, inland water resources and securing fisheries activities and fishers’
