Students’ Fieldwork Presentation in IFRDMD

On November 1, 2024, two students from Bengkulu University presented the results of their 40-day fieldwork at the Genetics Laboratory of SEAFDEC/IFRDMD. During this program, they conducted morphologically & morphometrically observations of anguillid eel using samples collected from Bengkulu Province. They learned how to analyze the DNA of eel fish samples based on the COI gene, which begins with the extraction process, electrophoresis, and continues with PCR optimization, then re-do electrophoresis again, and the electrophoresis results are observed using gel documentation. The Deputy Chief and IFRDMD staff involved in the eel project gave constructive feedback for improvement in their presentation, aiming to strengthen the quality and outcomes of their research.
In line with the objectives of Field Work Practice for university students, it is expected that, upon returning to their campus, the student’s knowledge, experience, abilities, and skills will be enhanced and applicable to future research endeavors
