SEAFDEC/IFRDMD and SEAFDEC/Secretariat were invited by Marino-Forum 21 (MF21) according to the inland fisheries technical support meeting under the Business Consignment Agreement signed by MF21 and SEAFD
EC. The meeting period was 27 August to 1 September 2019 . SEAFDEC secretariat representatives were led by the Secretary-General Dr. Kom Silapajarn, together with Deputy Secretary-General Mr. Akito Sato, and Information Program Coordinator, Ms. Nualanong Tongdee. On the first day, IFRDMD representatives visited the Fisheries Research and Education Agency (FRA) and were welcomed by Mr. Masanori Miyahara, President of FRA. Mr. Miyahara expressed the gratitude to the cooperation between FRA and SEAFDEC, and is willing to support in dispatching of experts to SEAFDEC in the future especially on stock assessment and management. At the National Research Institute of Fisheries Science (NRIFS), Yokohama, Kanazawa, the discussion was held with Research Center for Bioinformatics and Biosciences, and Research Center for Coastal and Freshwater Fisheries. The meeting was opened by SEAFDEC Secretary General that emphasized the importance of inland capture fisheries for the Southeast Asian region and then looked forward to fruitful discussion.Dr. Yukio Maeno expressed the appreciation to SEAFDEC team for exchanging views and expected the meeting would help enhancing cooperation and coordination in the future. The representative of IFRDMD, Dr. Arif Wibowo delivered a presentation on “Introduction on Inland Fisheries Research in Indonesia and Southeast Asia,” while Ms. Ni Komang Suryati presented about Introduction of tropical eel research implemented in Southeast Asia,” and Ms. Mirna Dwirastina presented “Introduction of plankton research supporting primary production of freshwater areas in Indonesia.”
In the NRIFS, Nikko, the discussion was held with Research Center for Coastal and Freshwater Fisheries. Dr. Tomoyuki Nakamura, Director, NRIFS Nikko wished the meeting came up with recommendations and better understanding of sustainable development of inland fisheries development in the region. Mr. Siswanta Kaban presented about “Introduction of Inland Fisheries Research conducted in Indonesia”, while Dr. Dina Muthmainnah presented about “Introduction of inland fisheries management and conservation in Southeast Asia” based on results of the project supported by JTF. All of the discussion was chaired by the deputy chief of IFRDMD, Dr. Takuro Shibuno.
