On 27 December 2023, IFRDMD organized the 2023 Annual Progress Meeting on Securing the Sustainability of Fisheries to Contribute to Food Security, Poverty Alleviation, and Livelihood of People in the Region”. At the Meeting, the achievements of activities in one year, 2023, and plans for next year, 2024, under the projects entitled: Sustainable Utilization of Anguillid Eels in the Southeast Asia Region, and Management Scheme of Inland Fisheries in the Southeast Asian Region were presented. The projects were funded by the Japan Trust Fund VI Phase 2.
The Meeting which was held by hybrid platform, face to face and online was opened by Chief, Mr. Andi Soesmono. Mr. Andi hoped the Meeting would have fruitful discussions, and the participants could exchange of views. The participants came from the SEAFDEC Secretariat, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, as well as IFRDMD.
Two evaluators, Dr. Mina Hori from Kochi University and Prof. Dr. Luky Adrianto from IPB University, were invited to evaluate, give input, and enrich the activities.
As it is a 5-year project, 2023 is the fourth year. Toward 2024, it should be time to evaluate the achievements, highlight the innovations, and summarize the lessons learned. These outputs will be essential milestones in marking the success and impact of JTF 6 Phase 2.
The Meeting was closed by Mr. Tomohito Shimizu, Deputy Chief of IFRDMD. Mr. Shimizu acknowledged the comments from the evaluators, the support from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, and the achievement of both projects from the team’s hard work.
