IFRDMD, under the project entitled Sustainable Utilization of Anguillid Eels in the Southeast Asia Region, funded by Japan Trust Fund VI Phase 2, conducted interviews with 18 eel fishers, including two women, in Cikaso River and Cimandiri River on 18-19 May 2023. These interviews were conducted to understand the concerns of capture fishers on the sustainability of the eel fishery in Palabuhan Ratu, Sukabumi, West Java, Indonesia.
In addition, an eel collector, Mr. Larismawan, was also interviewed to obtain the problems of eel fisheries in his working area, as well as his views on the current management and utilization of eel fisheries.
During the visit, the abundance of glass eels in nature was high. It allowed IFRDMD to see and learn about handling glass eels from the catching area to the shelter. The team was also able to see the packaging process of glass eels that will be sent to buyers for cultivation in ponds.
